Dr. Assel Terlikbayeva is the Regional Director of the Global Health Research Center of Central Asia (GHRCCA) and an Adjunct Research Scientist at Columbia University School of Social Work. Throughout her 20-year career, Dr. Terlikbayeva has been working on advancing solutions to health and social issues in Central Asia through research, education, training, policy and dissemination. Her research priorities have focused on developing, testing and disseminating behavioral interventions that address gender-based violence, substance use and mental health in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Dr. Terlikbayeva served as the Principal Investigator of the cluster community intervention trial that evaluated the effectiveness of an mHealth UMAI-WINGS SBIRT tool among 508 women from key affected populations at risk of GBV using a community-engaged approach. She has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications.
